Fire worship has been practiced since the beginning
of time. Undoubtedly the most terrible of all the elements, it has been
regarded as one of nature's most awesome mysteries. Acts of fire eating
and fire resistance have been performed ritualistically since before recorded
history. Such acts were often performed to prove ones devotion to the gods.
Anyone who could withstand contact with or manipulate flames received great
respect. Invulnerability to fire led to positions of great power.
As seen in the Epic Antigone rituals
involving fire were common in ancient Greece. Soldiers would hold a red
hot bar of iron or walk through burning coals to prove their innocence
in trials. In approximately BC 150 a Syrian by the name of Eunus claimed
he could communicate with the gods by breathing fire from his mouth. In
Japan Shinto priests are believed to have invented what is called hi-watari
or fire walking, the practice of walking barefoot through a bed of flaming
hot coals. This practice latter spread to India and was made world famous
by Hindu Fakirs.

Dai Andrews' fire performance consists of feats of fire eating and fire resistance. He even swallows the flames from up to six torches simultaneously. The act concludes with a feature so dangerous that most seasoned fire-eaters will not even attempt it... the Blowout a 15' fireball spewn high into the air! It is an awesome spectacle not to be missed! ![]() |
